Hansel and Grethel
I thought the story Hansel and Grethel by the Grimm Brothers was sad, deceiving, and sickening. This is because the father took the step mothers side when she said she did not want the childreen around him anymore because they were taking up all of his time. In my opinion, a child is always going to be a father or mother's number one priority in life. If a stepmom or dad does not like the child, the mother or father should take the child's side and get rid of the one that could hurt their relationship; instead of getting rid of the child whose relationship with the father or mother would then fall to pieces. The step mom fianlly found a way to have the children left in the woods without them finding their way back home. At this time the children were starving because they have not eaten in five days and five nights. In my opinion, that is just sickening if you're going to leave your child out in the woods to starve to death, be alone and lost, and probably get eaten and die.
The children found a house on an abandoned trail that was made of pure candy, so the children went up and started to eat it. An old lady was watching out the window with a grimace smile on her face, She came out and told the children she would help them, but instead she was lying. My opinion on this part is that you should never trust a stranger for help because you do not know what they want, and how they want it. The children went inside, ate, and fell asleep. The next morning, Hansel woke up in a cage and Grethel woke up screaming and crying in her bed. The grandma then came in and said Hansel you are going to eat and get fat, and then Grethel you are going to cook him in the oven so then I can eat him. In my opinion this is sickening because one, why would you want to eat a person. Two, why would you have another human being especially a sister cook her own brother. Three, the grandma must be crazy if she thinks she's going to kill her own brother.
The day that Grethel was going to have to kill Hansel for the grandma, Grethel asked the grandma if the oven was hot enough, the grandma looked, and Grethel pushed her into the oven and locked it so she could not get out. In my opinion that is also sickening, this is because you should not have to kill a person for revenge even if the grandma was a witch, and only wanted to eat the children. Grethel then ran and grabbed Hansel and went on the path, found there home, hugged there dad and lived happily ever after. In my opinion this part is sad to me. My dad took my step moms side instead of me and my sisters, and this part of the book reminded me of how much when I was a little girl that I wanted to go back to the house and hug my dad again, but I stayed back and started my own new path. Hansel and Grethel started a new path with their dad without the step mom; I started a new path with my mom and my sister, without my dad. In the end, I guess better things do happen to the people who deserve a second try.

Dummling and the Three feathers
The Grimm fairy tales are presented to dictate that discipline relies on fear. In the story Dummling and the Three Feathersm I think this story is mean and dicriminating. This is because a king who is dying has his three sons go around and get a carpet, ring, and a beautiful woman. Whoever had the most beautiful woman. Whoever had the most beautiful of all three objects got to become the new king of the palace. This is a kind of discipline because the king is expecting the children to do this when they probably do not want to at this time. The king had three feathers and blew them; one feather went to the east, one feather went to the west, and one went up in the air. The oldest and the brightest sons took the feathers that went east and west, and the not so bright son took the feather that went up in the air. This is discrimination in my point of view because they wanted the not so smart brother to go for the feather that blew up in the air instead of the feathers that blew east and west. The smarter brothers were trying to make the not so smart brother look more not so bright, this is why I think this part is a kind of discrimination.
The feather that blew up landed by a door so the brother went through the door and walked down the staircase. He ended up at another door and knocked; when a big frog opened the door and gave him everything he needed. The brothers who went east and west are now in fear because the brother who's feather went up had a better carpet, ring, and girl then they did. They didn't think it was right because he was not smart enough to run the castle all by himself. Which to me is another form of discrimination because you do not have to be smart to be a king, you just need to make the right choices for everyone and everything in the castle.
The last task was to have the women jump through a ring and whoever made it without any injuries got to run the palace. The older brothers knew they had it because there women were peasants and that they were used to doing this. This in my point of view is women's dicrimination becaue just because a woman is a peasant does not mean they are going to be good at a task. The younger brother didn't think anything of this task because his girl was made from a frog and a tulip. The last womanjumped through the ring soelegantly, and the youngest brother because he found the best of everything got to run the castle.
This story meant a lot to me because to me it is saying if you are not that smart it does not matter because you will find a way to see happiness in the little things, and with that find the better things in life. This story also was sad because the oder brothers disciminated on everything including the little brother who was not so smart, and the woman peasants. Discrimination is bad for books even in childrens book because even if you do not believe it, children pick up on discrimination on books and use it all over the place. This story places a hard look on discrimination on woman which is not right because even though these stories were made in the old times when woman were discriminated against, they didnt need to add it into a sotry for children to read. It also placed discrimination on the not so smart of children. This is not right at all because not all children are smart, and if a not so smart child were to read this book, he or she would be sad because this story is mocking him or her in a sort of wy that they can not help. Not all people are smart, but they find a way to figure out problems, and this is what they story I think is about.

Bearskin
The Grimm fairy tales influenced change to show how people's attitudes are changed. I think the story Bearskin is a good example of how a persons attitude is changed because Bearskin was in the army and he always had this kind of temper. One day he saw a bear and thought it would be funny to kill it. When he killed it he was happy and laughing because he was accomplished, because of this an evil spirit told him he was not allowed to shave, clean himself, or cut his nails for seven years. He accepted the challenge because he didn't think it would hurt him at all because of how strong he was in the army. As days and years started to go by his attitude changed because people were scared of him, people thought he was disgusting looking, and people just did not want him around.
Bearskin helped everyone around espeically the poor people because everytime he digged into his coat pocket he would pull out a handful of money. Even though he was a hairy beast, like the one he killed and was laughing about, he was glad he got to help people. This story kind of touched me because this story is all about a boy who killed a bear, so an evil spirit came and made the army boy, Bearskin, become a bear himself fwithout shaving, cleaning himself up, or cutting his nails for seven years, This story also touched me because his attitude changed because he got to see how his life would be like if he was a bear, and how his life was afterwards when he was back to his normal self.
In the fairytale Bearskin, a soldier was granted seven years to not shave, clean up, or cut his nails and if he did that he would become rich and have a happy life. He went around every year and everyone was afraid of him but he did everything to help every poor person in the world. In my opinion, people should not be afraid of someone no matter how bad or nasty he looks if he is trying to help you. He then helped a person he heard crying and the person brought him to his daughters while one of them had to choose to marry him. The two older sisters freaked out and ran away; the youngest one was ready for a marriage so she said yes.
The soldier then said we will get married in three years if I live through this, and if I do not live through this you will wear black and come to my funeral three years later. In my opinion, I think that was a good idea because if you can never tell if someone is going to live through a life like he had to for seven years. When he left she put black on right away and waited with the half of the ring he gave her. Three years later the evil spirit came and shaved his face, bathed him, and cut his nails and made him human once again. He was rich, happy, and went back to his wife. When the wife saw him she was really happy by the fact that he lived through the life he had to. This story is influenced by change because the guy changed into a bear to change the life of people and he did not even know he changed the life of people until he became human again.

Young Adult Novel: 19 Minutes
I thought the story Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult was a sad, disturbing, and decieving story. This was a sad book because it deals with a school shooting, it deals with death, and its deals with the killer committing suicide because he lied for his friend. He lied by saying he killed the girls boyfriend but it was actually the girlfriend who killed him. The book is disturbing because it has to deal with a boy going on a rampage because he was bullied his whole life. He went on a shooting rampage for Nineteen minutes. The book is decieving because everyone lies to keep everyone happy. The book Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult written in 2006 should be a book everyone should read because even though the book is sad, disturbing, and deceiving; this is a good book that is so intense you can not put it down until it is finished.
The book Nineteen Minutes starts off by saying, "In nineteen minutes, you can mow the front lawn, color your hair, watch a third of a hockey game. In nineteen minutes, you can bake scones or get a tooth filled by a dentist; you can fold laundry for a family of five. . . . . In nineteen minutes, you can stop the world, or you can just jump off of it. In nineteen minutes, you can get revenge". Nineteen Minutes is placed at a local high school named Sterling High; where the students followed their daily routines in the classroom, in the gym, and in the cafeteria. A loud bang is suddenly heard from the parking lot. That loud bang was a bomb set off in Matt Roystons car. As everyone in Sterling High was distracted by the loud bang, Peter Houghton the gunman, starts to fire a gun. He was bullied in Sterling High, and went for revenge not just on one person but on the whole school. Patrick, the detective passes several dead and wounded people to find Peter Hoghton, who was hiding in the locker room. In nineteen minutes Peter Houghton killed ten people; nine students, and one teacher.
